Best Cloth Diaper Accessories
1. Cloth Diaper Safe Cream
MotherLove Diaper Balm – a well-loved cloth diaper safe diaper cream that comes in plastic-free packaging! If you’re looking for the most eco friendly store-bought option to keep baby’s booty rash free, this is it!
The balm is USDA certified organic, certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny, and woman-owned. Additionally, the product is made in the USA in a solar powered zero waste facility!
This diaper cream is also petroleum free. This is super important with cloth diapers because petroleum will coat your diapers over time and make them less absorbent and more prone to leaking or worse – causing diaper rash.
2. Cloth Wipes
The best cloth diaper wipes are the Cloth-eez Birdseye Cloth Wipes. They are the perfect combination of grippy and soft. You also can’t argue with unbleached 100% organic cotton!
I love that they are thick enough that I never have to worry about getting my hands dirty. (I’m looking at you, disposable wipes.) Are they cute? Not really. Are they still the best thing ever? Absolutely!
Once you use these reusable wipes to clean a poopy butt, you’ll wonder how you ever changed diapers with disposable wipes.
(PSSSST… They also make these in a larger size as Cloth Paper Towel Alternatives! I LOVE these too!)
3. Wipe Warmer
The Munchkin Bright and Warm Wipes Warmer works great with cloth wipes. It has a window to see if you’re running low BEFORE you’re stuck at the table mid-change and realize you’re out.
It also has a night light which is great for nighttime diaper changes when you really don’t want to turn the light on.
Just grab a stack of cloth wipes, wet them in the sink or douse them in wipe solution, and slap them in the warmer. They stay moist and warm until you’re ready to use them!
This is a big piece of plastic so trying to find it used would make it more eco friendly. A spray bottle with some water, or even a glass container with damp wipes, are other eco friendly options to store wipes without warming them.
4. Cloth Wipe Solution
Balm! Baby Juice Those Wipes is a concentrated liquid that comes in a glass bottle. It is made of all-natural ingredients with plastic-free packaging!
You can put it directly on your wipes (in a warmer) or in a spray bottle to spray onto your wipes.
If you are comfortable with it you can also just use water! This is the route I take, but I know lots of people prefer some sort of cleanser.
5. Diaper Fasteners
Snappis are the best diaper fastener! It is made of silicone so you just stretch it and go. The little claws are hard plastic, but they are small.
These hold up amazingly so you can probably find some second-hand that still work great.
Diaper fasteners are only used on prefold and flat cloth diapers, as well as some fitted diapers.
6. Stay-Dry Diaper Liners
Silk cloth diaper liners are a great option for keeping natural fibers against baby’s skin while also having stay-dry properties.
These require hand washing, but they don’t have the same felting issues as wool liners and are a lot easier to maintain.
It is super easy to DIY cloth diaper liners by thrifting silk clothing and cutting it into strips to fit in the diaper. An added bonus is you can just make some more if they do get messed up in the washing machine!
There are also disposable diaper liners if you are more concerned about dealing with less poop than with staying dry.
7. Cloth Diaper Inserts
The Thirsties Hemp Cloth Diaper Inserts are my holy grail cloth diaper accessory. These are a hemp/cotton blend and are made in the USA.
Hemp is the most absorbent material so using a hemp booster keeps the diaper trim while also being very absorbent. The cotton blend allows it to dry faster than pure hemp would.
You also don’t have to worry about compression leaks with these as you do with other materials (ahem… microfiber and bamboo).
8. Diaper Pail Liners / Hanging Wet Bags
The Smart Bottoms Hanging Wet Bag is sturdy, waterproof, and made in North America!
Leave the bag unzipped so it can air out. (Believe it or not, it makes your diapers smell less!) I only zip mine closed to make sure nothing falls out on the way to the washing machine!
The Planet Wise Diaper Pail Liners are great quality and are made in the USA. They are waterproof and are used to line whatever you are using as a diaper pail or laundry hamper.
These come in many different sizes so be sure to check the measurements of your laundry basket of choice before purchasing!
Make sure you buy 2 of each so you have a place to put your dirty diapers and soiled clothes while you’re doing laundry!
9. Diaper Pail
There is no need to get a fancy diaper pail with cloth diapers. If you are using a hanging wet bag you don’t need one at all!
If you do decide to use a diaper pail, you can pick whatever you want that matches your decor. Just make sure the diaper pail liner you buy fits the size of your pail and remember that the diapers stink less when they have airflow!
10. Travel Wet Bag
This Planet Wise Travel Wet Bag is PVC, BPA, and lead-free and made in the USA. This is considered a cloth diaper accessory but it should honestly just be a baby registry must have no matter how you’re choosing to diaper!
You will definitely want multiple of these to, not only hold your dirty diapers while you’re out and about, but also to keep soiled clothes, dirty burp rags, or wet swimsuits away from the rest of the stuff in your diaper bag!
They also come in multiple sizes so you can get smaller ones to hold wet cloth wipes while you’re out too!
11. Cloth Diaper Sprayer
The Aquaus 360 Handheld Bidet Sprayer is easily the best cloth diaper sprayer for a couple of reasons.
- It is the only diaper sprayer that is certified by the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) for legal installation in the USA (and the cUPC in Canada). The last thing you want is a flooded bathroom for saving a few bucks on a cheaper sprayer!
- The head of the sprayer is brass and has a stainless steel hose which I am sure needs no explanation for a home with a toddler! haha (It also comes in an impact-resistant polymer head which is cheaper but it is plastic. This would be a good option if you want the security of the UPC certification but can’t afford the brass version.)
- The different wand attachments allow you to select your desired size of spray and how far away you want the handle to be from it. This is great while you’re diapering and also after when you may want a different size or feel if you reuse it as a bidet sprayer!
- Made in the USA (buying local has a much smaller carbon footprint since there is less distance for the product to be shipped.)
It is worth mentioning that the company also markets and sells a Cloth Diaper Sprayer. The company has confirmed that it is the exact same as the polymer sprayer just with different marketing. At the time of writing, the cloth diaper sprayer is the exact same price as the all brass sprayer, and $20 more than the polymer sprayer.
Also, just as a reminder, your baby’s poop doesn’t need to be sprayed if they are exclusively breastfed! You will need it when they start solids though.
12. Diaper Sprayer Shield
The Aquaus SprayMate Daiper Sprayer Shield has thought of everything when it comes to diaper sprayers and especially for people who are still squeamish about baby poop. (Although I think most people get desensitized after changing multiple poopy diapers even with disposables. lol)
- The shield will sit firmly on the toilet and not move, thanks to its little legs. This also lifts it up off the floor.
- It comes with a claw gripper reach tool to manipulate the diaper without getting your hands wet. (Do you remember the little dino head grabbers we had as kids? They should have made this one dino shaped, too! No reason you can’t have fun while spraying poop off your little’s diapers!)
- The little clips hold the diaper in the pail to, once again, protect your hands from poop and water.
- Lastly, the best part, this diaper sprayer shield comes with a tray that sits under the hole for storage, so as the water runs out the bottom of the pail it doesn’t just drip directly onto your floor!
Conveniently this is made by the same company as the diaper sprayer I recommended so you can buy them bundled to save some money.

13. Cloth Diaper Safe Laundry Detergent
Biokleen Free and Clear Natural Powdered Laundry Detergent is perfect for cloth diapers.
It doesn’t have any fabric softeners which coat the fibers of your diapers and cause loss of absorbancy or diaper rashes.
Biokleen also does have any fragrances or optical brighteners which can cause irritation to baby’s skin.
It’s biodegradable, comes in a cardboard box, and is made in the USA. So it’s also a win for the environment.
You might be wondering why this isn’t a cloth diaper specific laundry detergent and that’s because those are not necessary! They are usually more expensive for no good reason. As long as you are checking the ingredients, regular detergents work just fine (and are cheaper too)!
14. Wool Dryer Balls
These Wool Dryer Balls from amazon work great to help your diaper laundry dry faster. This is especially noticable in prefolds and hemp inserts, but are honestly great for all of your laundry!
Wool Dryer Balls can be DIY’d or can typically be found at your local farmers market! Buying local is the most eco friendly option and supports your neighborhood farms and/or crafters, so I would recommend checking there first!
15. Drying Rack / Clothesline
The Ikea Frost Drying Rack is my favorite drying rack for small spaces. You can angle the wings to suit or needs or your space and still have a ton of drying room. It also folds up very flat to be tucked away when not in use (which, I’m not going to lie, is very rare when cloth diapering haha).
If you’re more of a clothesline type of person this one is made from cotton and has two carabiners ready to hang!
